The Legacy and Vision of Pilar Vera Palmés

The Ángeles, Eugenia and Jorge Piretti Award embodies the vision of Pilar Vera Palmés, President of the Air Safety Foundation. It stems from her firm belief that every tragedy in the skies should be turned into knowledge and active prevention measures to save lives.Imagen de Ángeles, Eugenia y Jorge Piretti que dan el nombre al Premio de FaSA20

After more than 17 years of tireless leadership at the helm of the Association of Affected by Flight JK5022 and the Air Crash Victims’ Families’ Federation International (the first and only international association of victims and families), Pilar Vera made history in Spain by establishing FaSA20 in 2023. This new organisation will carry out the same work as the previous two, but with a more professional and proactive approach, backed by resources and centred on a culture of preventive aviation safety.

Premio 'Ángeles, Eugenia y Jorge Piretti'

A tribute of her own initiative: At Pilar Vera’s express wish and decision, the award is named after the family of Ángeles Piretti León as a lasting tribute to her generosity in providing the financial support needed to legally register FaSA20.

The award: The design, which features a pair of hands holding an aeroplane, symbolises the cause that Pilar Vera has championed for almost two decades: the protection of civil aviation. It honours individuals who follow her example of courage, ethics, and outstanding commitment.

An international milestone: It is presented at a formal ceremony on 20 February each year. This date was adopted by the ICAO itself as the International Day of Remembrance for Victims of Aviation Accidents and their Families, following Pilar Vera’s historic addresses to its Assembly and Council.
